Located in Visitacion Valley in San Francisco, CLAER has been one of the leading frontline respondents in San Francisco attempting to deal with the root causes of violence and its residual impact on families for over five years. In the short time since our inception, CLAER staff has served over 200 families throughout San Francisco, representing over 700 individuals. Our asset-based model empowers indigenous residents to go beyond their individual victimization and take specific actions to influence local, state, and federal policy initiatives.
Specifically, the CLAER Project is engaged in “asset-building” activities that: reduce barriers to employment and enterprise development for at-risk individuals; 2) increase civic and community participation among public housing residents, and; 3) integrate policy advocacy with grassroots activism to institutionalize a public discourse on the disproportionate effect of violence on minority communities in San Francisco. Ultimately, the CLAER Project advances both the economic and social interests of residents in the city’s southeast sector while strengthening the policy infrastructure of the City to prevent future incidences of violence throughout San Francisco.

Let us not try to be the best or worst of others, but let us make the effort to be the best of ourselves.
